Ready to throw an axe

How do you throw an axe?

First, you need to have the right grip.

Pick up the axe with a firm grip, just as you would with a baseball bat. Make sure that the blade is straight and not rotated to the left or right, or it won't stick to the target.

HOW TO THROW AN AXE

  1. Use both hands to hold the axe firmly. Check that the blade is straight.
  2. Stand tall and put most of your weight on the side of your right foot (or left if you are left-handed).
  3. Raise the axe over your head as if you were about to throw a basketball. Focus on the target. Then lean back.
  4. Now move the axe forward quickly and let go of it when your arms are in front of you, slightly above your shoulder.
  5. Bam!

Is axe throwing safe?

Safety is our #1 priority.

At Riot Axe, all of our coaches are trained and certified in safety specific to axe throwing. Following is a brief list of safety rules. For more information, please check out the official axe throwing SAFETY RULES.

SAFETY RULES

  1. Safety coaches will give full instruction and demonstration to all axe throwers before they can throw.
  2. Axes must be at least 12ft away but no further than 16ft from the target.
  3. Axes may only be thrown by holding the handle and never by holding the blade.
  4. No participant may be within 4 feet of another participant while throwing an axe.
  5. Side-arm style, backwards, and multiple axe throwing techniques are prohibited.
  6. Axes cannot be handed off between throwers. Always place an axe in the designated area and allow the next thrower to pick it up.
