LARKSPUR ELEMENTARY WEBSITE:
WEBSITE USABILITY STUDY AND REDESIGN PROJECT
The Usability Study and Redesign project for Larkspur Elementary's website was a comprehensive exploration of the user experience design process. The goals of the usability research and testing were:
- To determine how easily users can navigate the site
- To assess how quickly and easily users can find the information they are seeking
- To uncover usability problems
- To discover user needs and goals
- To analyze results
- To develop recommendations on how to address the issues
The following research and testing methods were used:
- HEURISTIC EVALUATION: to appraise how well the site conforms to usability principles.
- USER RESEARCH: to determine user demographics and gauge user goals and needs for the site.
- PERSONA CREATION: to represent common user demographics, goals ,and needs.
- USER STORIES: to illustrate users' specific needs and why they need them.
- CONTENT INVENTORY: to catalog all pages and content and evaluate it based on its functionality, thoroughness, accuracy, relevance, and quality.
- CURRENT SITE TESTING: to observe users interacting with the current site and discover the most common usability issues.
- PROTOTYPE CREATION: to redesign the site addressing the major usability issues.
- PROTOTYPE TESTING: to gauge the effectiveness of the redesigned prototype.
User testing on the prototype established that the new design enhanced and improved users' understanding of the total site from navigation to task completion. Based on the results of all research, usability recommendations were compiled in a final report to provide suggestions to stakeholders on how to implement a successful interface redesign.
